The flame-haired royal was due to take part in an exercise with the Royal Bahamian Defence Force yesterday (04.03.12), but had to abandon the boat he was on when it faltered before switching to another small vessel used by the press.

Harry was on his way from the capital Nassau to Harbour Island when the incident occurred, but he eventually landed safely and was greeted by crowds of well-wishers.

While visiting the Bahamas – which is the second leg of his Caribbean tour – he also hailed the island’s “special place” in the heart of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth, who he is representing on the trip.

He said: “I stand before you with a deep sense of pride at being asked to convey to you a message of good wishes from the queen on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee.

“The Bahamas holds a special place in Her Majesty’s heart. Her love for this realm and you, the Bahamian people, stretches back over the decades, right to that first visit in 1966.‪”

The next leg of the tour will take him to Jamaica before he travels to Brazil.
