The 27-year-old royal and the singer were among a group of friends in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier, where they marked the turning of the year at friend Guy Pelly’s new club Public.

Harry and his friends celebrated in the venue’s VIP room – and managed to avoid trouble elsewhere in the nightspot.

A source told the Daily Mail: “Everyone was rather over-excited and two fights broke out while Prince Harry was there.

“He was enjoying himself with a group of ten chums, including James and Guy, but they were in a VIP room and the fights took place elsewhere. They were totally unrelated to his being there.”

Meanwhile, Harry’s brother Prince William and his wife Duchess Catherine spent New Year with the duchess’ family.

The royal couple celebrated the arrival of 2012 with Catherine’s relatives at a party hosted by her sister Pippa Middleton in the garden of her parents’ home in Berkshire, South England.

The family celebrated in a tepee-style kata – a tent traditionally made from animal hides used by reindeer herders in Lapland – which Pippa had hired from an upmarket events firm.

According to a villager, the couple were seen laughing and joking and “looked full of the joys of the season.”
