The Beatles legend is set to receive the Outstanding Contribution To Music prize at a star-studded ceremony in London’s Earls Court on February 20 and will make his first ever appearance at the show.

McCartney joins an illustrious list of former winners including his late Beatles bandmate John Lennon, Sir Tom Jones, Sting, Oasis, Paul Weller and Sir Bob Geldof.

Ringo Starr is rumoured to be in line to present Paul with the award, which is voted for by key figures in the music industry.

Ringo was due to present the award to Oasis last year, but The Beatles star later pulled out.

This is not the first time McCartney has been honoured at the BRITs. At the first ever ceremony in 1977, The Beatles won Best Album, Best Group and the Outstanding Contribution To Music prize.

News of his achievement comes after a tough year for the 65-year-old star. The musician, who was also nominated for a Grammy Award last week, is currently in the middle of a bitter public divorce from estranged wife Heather Mills.

McCartney has recently been romantically linked to Hollywood actress Rosanna Arquette, who he has reportedly been dating since August.
