The Material Girl singer owns a large apartment in a co-operative building and claims Midboro Management Inc’s board of directors, who own the West 64th Street block in New York, wrongfully blocked her attempted purchase of a seventh-floor apartment.

Madonna has asked the court to let the sale go through and award her legal fees, according to documents filed at Manhattan’s state Supreme Court on Wednesday (05.12.07).

The 49-year-old singer bought the apartment in 1985, which overlooks Central Park, after she was rejected by the board of directors from living at the desirable San Remo building – where U2’s Bono has an apartment.

Madonna and director husband Guy Ritchie were in New York recently to promote his film Revolver.

Guy – who shot to fame with his London gangster movies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch – revealed his superstar spouse had a lot of input in the final cut of the film.

He said: ‘We made it shorter and tried to make it simpler. Funnily enough, we took out the bits that my wife recommended we take out the first time she saw it!’
