The Monsters, Inc. star voluntarily spent time in Malibu’s Promises Treatment Center – which has also treated stars including Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears – in order to “remain sober for his family”.

Goodman said in a statement: “For my family and myself, I voluntarily took the necessary steps to remain sober for the rest of my life.”

The exact nature of the 55-year-old actor’s addiction has not been disclosed, and it is unknown when he checked in or out of the facility.

Goodman won an Emmy award earlier this year for a guest appearance in US TV show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

He is best known for playing beer-guzzling Dan Conner in hit US sitcom Roseanne from 1988 to 1997. Goodman can soon be heard voicing a character in Bee Movie alongside Renee Zellweger and Jerry Seinfeld.

The film follows a bee who has just graduated from college, and is set for release later this year.
