JARVIS COCKER says he now regrets taking to the stage in protest while Michael Jackson was performing at the BRIT award show in 1996.

“I just pushed it too far with that thing, because it wasn’t, ‘Jarvis Cocker played an amazing song at the Brit Awards last night’,” said Cocker.
“It was, ‘Jarvis Cocker titted about at the Brit Awards last night’.”
Cocker’s intervention split the nation down the middle, with fans of Jackson ranged against those who thought the King of Pop needed bringing down a peg or two.
At the time, Cocker was adamant in the rightness of his cause.
“My actions were a form of protest at the way Michael Jackson sees himself as some kind of Christ-like figure with the power of healing,” he said in 1996.
But now the Pulp singer reckons his stunt put him in the wrong kind of media spotlight.
“That one action transported me to a kind of tabloid fame, which I couldn’t have imagined,” Cocker said.
“My whole set of values had nothing to do with that kind of tabloidy thing. It took me a long time to work through.”
No word from Cocker as to whether he’ll turn up at one of Jackson’s summer concerts at London’s O2.
Cocker is one of the big names scheduled to play at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
