Angelina Jolie is planning a day-long vigil for the first anniversary of her mother’s death.

The Tomb Raider star was left devastated after losing her 56-year-old mother Marcheline Bertrand to ovarian cancer on January 27 last year, and hopes Sunday’s vigil (27.01.08) will be a fitting tribute to the late actress.

A source close to Angelina said: “She wants to pay tribute to Marcheline in the best way she can. She is going to go with her partner Brad Pitt, their children and her brother, James, to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where Marcheline died.

“They are going to give a donation to the hospital’s women’s cancer research fund, and then they are going to visit Marcheline’s grave.”

Angelina is also planning to show her and Brad’s adopted children, six-year-old Maddox, Pax, four, three-year-old Zahara and their biological one-year-old daughter Shiloh, pictures of their late grandmother.

The source continued: “Angelina knows the children don’t remember Marcheline, and she finds that thought really difficult. She hopes by showing them pictures of Marcheline, and cooking her favourite meal – thick vegetable soup – the children will feel some sort of connection to their grandmother.”

However, Angelina’s 36-year-old brother James is worried the Beowulf star – who recently admitted her drastic weight loss was down to her mother’s death – won’t be able to cope at the intimate commemoration.

A friend of the family told the Daily Express: “James and Angelina both adored their mother. They want this day to be solely dedicated to her memory.

“Angelina still cries a lot about her mother, and James has been saying how worried he is that she will fall apart on Sunday.”
