JAR CITY aka Myrin is a gripping and intriguing crime thriller, unearthing a cold case murder which shockingly reveals secrets of a genetic defect running through an entire community. Expertly shot by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur and with a clever intertwining narrative.
Set against the unforgiving landscape of Iceland Inspector Erlendur (Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson) is called on to investigate a murder, whilst searching the crime scene he discovers a lead; a photograph of a young girl’s grave. Following this only clue, Erlendur and his team discover that many years ago the victim was accused, though not convicted, of a horrible crime and as the investigation escalates a far darker and more sinister case is uncovered.
Within the same small community Örn (Atli Rafn Sigurðsson) is mourning the death of his four-year-old daughter, lost to a rare congenital disease with a fierceness that borders on obsession, these seemingly unrelated story lines weave together with calculated precision.
