When her mother falls dangerously ill, 15-year-old circus performer Helena searches for a refuge from reality. She turns to the fantasy world of her drawings, The Dark Lands, a wondrous kingdom presided over by rivals, the Queen of Light and the Queen of Shadow. Like Helena’s mother, the Queen of Light has drifted into a coma and the Queen of Shadow is plotting to seize control of the fantasy realm with the help of her demonic minions. Helena joins forces with noble adventurer Valentine to find a mystical object called the MirrorMask, which will wake the Queen of Light from her eternal slumber and restore peace to The Dark Lands.
