Lolita Cassard has always struggled to win the approval of her father Etienne, a famous novelist with an over-inflated sense of self-importance, who never misses a chance to criticize his daughter’s clothes and weight. Encouraged by her singing teacher Sylvia, Lolita plans a musical recital in the local church and invites her father along so he might hear her sing. The event is attended by the whole village, but Etienne’s massive ego and insensitivity bring the evening to a shattering close.
