In October 2011, ArtReview magazine named Ai Weiwei as the most powerful and influential artist on the planet. The Chinese dissent has garnered effusive praise for his installations, sculpture, photography, films and architectural design, but he has won even greater praise – and countless enemies – for his outspoken views of his own government’s human rights record. This documentary is granted unprecedented access to the artist and follows his every move over the course of three years.
