Laurent Pelly brings tenderness, humour and southern sunshine to his production of Donizetti's opera. A 1950s Italian village provides the backdrop to a spirited tale of love's twists and turns. The beautiful score by Donizetti brings his cast of characters alive. Memorable scenes include Nemorino's expression of his devoted love for Adina and then the change in her style from animated style softness as she begins to regard Nemorino in a different light.
