Monday, 10th November 2008

Queen Elizabeth led a Remembrance Sunday service to commemorate fallen soldiers yesterday (10.11.08).

The royal laid a wreath of poppies at the Cenotaph memorial - which bears the inscription, The Glorious Dead - in central London.

The event - which coincides with the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War - was also attended by the monarch's son Prince Charles, as well as Prince William, Prince Philip and the Duke of Edinburgh.

The queen's grandson Prince Harry was not in attendance because he is currently serving with his regiment.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Conservative leader David Cameron and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg also honoured the brave soldiers by each laying wreaths.

Remembrance Sunday pays tribute to the dead in all conflicts, including the 122 British personnel killed in Afghanistan since 2001 and the 176 who have died in Iraq since 2003.

Later, the queen attended a special remembrance service at the Royal Albert Hall, organised by the Royal British Legion.
