Jubilee line drivers are set to strike next week over what unions see as "attack after attack" on their working conditions.

Next Tuesday, 2 April, has been earmarked as the first in what could be a series of 24-hour strikes, with the 2 May also pencilled in for industrial action, after union members voted "overwhelmingly" for strike action.

"There has been a systematic undermining of working conditions and staff morale on a Tube line that faces constant pressure from frequent breakdowns and failures and where drivers are in the front line of trying to maintain both an effective service and passenger safety," said RMT union leader Bob Crow.

"Their reward has been attack after attack on working conditions and on both individuals and the drivers as a group of staff."

Drivers represented by Aslef, the other main union for Tube drivers, are also due to strike on the same days.

Among the issues at the heart of the dispute with London Underground are what Crow described as the "disgusting" state of some staff facilities and "bullying" and "intimidation" of drivers by Tube managers.

It is possible the issues will be resolved before Tuesday as both sides are keen for talks.

"I urge both unions to abandon this unnecessary action and get around the table to resolve the matter," said Howard Collins, London Underground COO, while Crow said that the RMT, "remains available for talks".
