COCKROACHES and mice have been residents in the KFC on Leicester Square, the fast-food chain has admitted.

KFC also conceded that it failed to provide proper handwashing facilities and failed to keep one of its flagship restaurants clean in a case before Westminster Magistrates Court, heard yesterday.

But it’s the vermin – including an infestation of flies as well as the cockroaches and mice – that will turn the most stomachs.

On the plus side, KFC say they acted quickly to sort out the problems.

“These charges date back to August 2008 and we took immediate action to bring the restaurant back up to our strict hygiene standards,” said a company spokesperson.

KFC are currently on a big expansion programme in the UK, with plans to open 300 new outlets.

The hearing was adjourned for sentencing, which will take place on 10 May.
