YOU can’t get a more romantic figure on Valentine’s weekend than Juliet of Romeo and Juliet renown and at Covent Garden on Friday a statue of Shakespeare’s love-lorn character, a replica of the famous bronze one in Verona, is to be unveiled.

Legend says the statue brings good romantic fortune to all who touch it, which should go down well with both loving couples and singletons hoping to find someone special in 2009.

Near the Verona original, on the way to the balcony said to be the scene of Juliet’s famous “Wherefore art thou?” speech, lovers through the ages have left each other messages, a tactic also imported to Covent Garden, where you’ll be able to write a romantic wish and post it onto a dedicated Love Wall.

Amaretto liqueur makers Disaronno, the organisers of the statue event, will post the best of these messages on its its website, a kind of 21st century version of the Love Wall.

The Juliet statue is on the north side of the Covent Garden piazza between Friday 13 February and Saturday 14.
