Carlyle's House Gallery, London
In the historic district of Chelsea, once a literary hub of London, this building is one of the best preserved 18th. Home of the historian Thomas Carlyle, the classic Queen Anne house has had such famous visitors as Charles Dickens, Alfred Lord Tennyson and George Eliot. It contains books, furniture, pictures and personal possessions from past owners as well as a small walled garden. Open Monday 11:00 - 17:00. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children. Guided tours for groups are also available.
