Wisconsin Death Trip

Docu-drama re-enacting some of the terrible and macabre events detailed in Michael Lesy’s 1973 book about the atmosphere of religious fanaticism and murder which engulfed the farming community of Black River Falls in the late 19th century. Taking its inspiration from the photographs of citizen Charles Van Schaik, the film recreates the brutal climate of poverty and disease which killed off most of the town’s young and sent their grieving parents and relatives beserk.
