Bree is a pre-operative male to female transsexual poised to undergo the final surgery that will complete her transformation. All she needs is for her therapist, Margaret, to grant her legal permission for the operation. Unfortunately, Margaret refuses to sign on the dotted line unless Bree confronts her ghosts from the past: namely Toby, the 17-year-old son she never knew she had, who has turned out to be a hustler with a criminal record. Bree reluctantly agrees, and embarks on a haphazard road trip with Toby, trying to bond with the emotionally scarred young man.
