In 1986, a rural community is shocked by the rape and murder of a young girl called Pia. The culprits, building caretaker Peer Sommer and young protege Timo Friedrich, evade detection, their heinous crime unsolved by retiring police officer Krischan and his inexperienced partner David. Then in 2009, 13-year-old Sinnika vanishes without trace and her bicycle is found in the same wheat field.
