Fausta sits patiently at the deathbed of her mother, having inherited many of the old woman’s fears and insecurities. The daughter finds meagre work as a maid for brilliant yet hotheaded pianist, Aida. The professional musician is enamoured with Fausta’s songs, her escape from the harsh realities of life, and together they try to find a way for the maid to shake free of the misery, which has ruined an entire generation.
