Anglican priest Rebecca Ashton is devastated by the death of her daughter and decides to start anew with her other daughter Eloise in a remote Cornish community, far away from the painful memories of the past. At the local church, Rebecca meets a Bulgarian girl called Radka and she is moved by the youngster’s plight. The bond between the priest and her emotionally needy charge deepens at the expense of Rebecca’s relationship with Eloise.
