Blu is a domesticated blue macaw, who lives in relative luxury with his owner and best friend Linda in the sleepy community of Moose Lake, Minnesota. When Linda learns about another rare blue macaw in Rio de Janeiro, she and Blu head to exotic Brazil to track down the bird called Jewel. No sooner has Blu met Jewel than the birds are kidnapped by greedy animal smugglers, who realise the monetary value of the last pair of breeding blue macaws.
