Born in Los Angeles in 1920, Ray Harryhausen redefined the way Hollywood valued special effects with his iconic stop-motion animations, which have inspired a generation of filmmakers including Tim Burton, Henry Selick and the creative geniuses at Aardman. Harryhausen’s hand-crafted monsters added big screen spectacle to The Lost World in 1925, the 1933 version of King Kong, the odysseys of Sinbad and the 1981 sword and sandals romp Clash Of The Titans. Directed by Gilles Penso, Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan provides unprecedented access to the filmmakers’ models, artwork and miniatures, opening the door to his private study and workshop where many of his creations came to life. Unseen footage of tests is interwoven with interviews with friends, family and admirers including Rick Baker, James Cameron, Guillermo Del Toro, Terry Gilliam, Peter Jackson, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, John Landis, Peter Lord, Dennis Muren, Nick Park, Steven Spielberg, Phil Tippet and Robert Zemeckis.
