In her teenage years, society princess Diane Nemerov meets Allan Arbus and they marry. She learns to work as an assistant to her photographer husband, living through the lens, whether it be a glossy magazine photo or an advertising campaign for a department store. When Diane meets her neighbour Lionel, who suffers from a rare affliction (his entire body is covered in soft hair), her creativity is unleashed and Diane begins to see the world from a completely different perspective.
