Victorian art critic John Ruskin takes wide-eyed innocent Euphemia Gray as his teenage bride. A formal visit to Ruskin’s parents opens Effie’s eyes to the solitude and loneliness that she will have to bear for the rest of her married life. Ruskin spirits Effie up to Scotland with Everett Millais, who has been commissioned to paint a portrait of the eminent critic.
