Mei is renowned in her district for cooking the most delicious dumplings, but her tasty wares are also said to have magical properties, helping to reverse the aging process. Mrs Lee hopes to rejuvenate herself with a course of Mei’s dumplings, and perhaps help to revitalize her ailing marriage to her philandering husband. As she gorges herself on the succulent, steaming treats, Mrs Lee learns that the dumplings contain a rather special ingredient: the ground-up flesh and bones of dead foetuses. Beauty comes at a price.
