Director Ferrand shoots an ill-fated melodrama Meet Pamela on location in Nice. On-set tensions are inflamed by personal conflicts involving American actress Julie, her ageing co-star Alexandre, young male lead Alfonse and the director's old mistress Severine, whose star has well and truly faded. As cast and crew clash in their efforts to get each shot into the can, seeds of romance blossom, a fledgling career hangs in the balance and Ferrand struggles to maintain calm.
