Writer-director Andreas Dresen examines scenes from a marriage in this intimate character study, centred on sexagenarian seamstress Inge (Ursula Werner) and her husband Werner (Horst Rehberg), who have been together for more than 30 years. Their lives are a predictable routine and the lack of excitement gradually propels Inge into the arms and the bed of seventy-something lover Karl (Horst Westphal). Consumed with guilt, Inge must come to terms with her betrayal and decide whether to admit her adulterous actions to Werner. Dresen’s film contains scenes of a sexually graphic nature.
