New York cop Billy Taggart leaves the force in disgrace but dodges jail thanks to the intervention of popular Mayor, Nicholas Hostetler Seven years later, Hostetler calls in his marker: he asks Billy to gather evidence to prove that his wife Cathleen has been unfaithful. A simple surveillance operation reveals a hotel room liaison between Cathleen and Paul Andrews (Kyle Chandler), manager of the rival Valliant campaign. Her betrayal seems clear, then Andrews is murdered.
