Situated on the San Andreas Fault in the middle of the Colorado Desert, the Salton Sea became a draw for tourists in the 1920s. A number of resorts sprung up on the shore including Bombay Beach. However, the American dream became a nightmare and the resorts were reduced to ghost towns. The documentary travels to Bombay Beach to meet some of the current people who call this barren Californian landscape their home, set to a soundtrack of Beirut and Bob Dylan.
