Mixing fact and fiction, American Splendor chronicles the (extra)ordinary life of hospital file clerk Harvey Pekar who decided to document his day-to-day existence in the form of a comic book. Beginning in 1976, he created American Splendor, a warts ‘n’ all diary of his working class life, including his inane conversations with friends and neighbours, misfortunes at work, and his thoughts on the decline of American culture.
