In 1844 Japan, the feudal system within the country hands power to the Shogun, and women must bow down to men. Lord Naritsugu Matsudaira, brother of the Shogun, abuses his position, leading one nobleman to commit hara-kari. In desperation, Sir Doi hires venerated samurai Shinzaemon Shimada to kill Naritsugu. Thus Shinzaemon assembles a crack team of 13 swordsmen to slay the despot.
