MAN AND BOY is co-directed by DAVID LEON and MARCUS MCSWEENEY and written by RASHID RAZAQ, who all previously collaborated on the acclaimed short film Father. Alongside Leon and Mcsweeney, producers are CAROLINE HARVEY, whose credits include the BAFTA nominated Love You More and RUPERT BRYAN and MARK DOWNES of Motion Picture House production company.
Man and Boy centres on a chance encounter when the lost son of a dark father meets an older man, spinning the trio into a moral minefield with deadly consequences.
Double British Independent Film Award winner EDDIE MARSAN was attracted to the project by the strength of the script and the dynamic young directing duo of Leon and Mcsweeney. Marsan has enjoyed a wealth of critical success for his roles in films including Gangs of New York, 21 Grams, Vera Drake, V for Vendetta, The Illusionist, Miami Vice, Happy-Go-Lucky, Hancock and the upcoming Sherlock Holmes. Man and Boy marks a return for Marsan to his Bethnal Green roots, with shooting to take place in London’s East End from 5 August.
Man and Boy is the second collaboration for co-directors David Leon and Marcus Mcsweeney, following on from their debut short film Father starring Sam Spruell (London to Brighton).
Co-director DAVID LEON comes from an acting background with roles in films including Clapham Common, The Lives of the Saints, The Wild West. Working with Oliver Stone on Alexander and Guy Ritchie on RocknRolla gave David the opportunity to learn aspects of his new directing craft from these established directors.
Co-director MARCUS MCSWEENEY has previously worked on a diverse range of film and video projects. He has been nominated for several awards including LUX best experimental short as well as being selected for ‘Best of British’ at the Encounters Film Festival for his documentary Crossing Tracks. Marcus has made several documentary features including a portrait of the artist Jeff Keen for the BFI and a 25th anniversary film about the seminal rockmockumentary This is Spinal Tap, for Optimum Releasing, which will air on ITV.
Co-producers MOTION PICTURE HOUSE (MPH) are an established production company based within Saatchi and Saatchi who are at the forefront of RED digital post-production. They have produced a number of high-end shorts and features including Tea and Biscuits starring Toby Kebbell, Baseline starring Jamie Foreman and David Leon and Marcus Mcsweeney’s previous film Father.
