Fact: Horror movies are far more scary when watched in the cinema. But for those of you who prefer the comfort of your own home, we’ve also included our favourite horror movies available on DVD. Enjoy the fright-fest.

These are our favourite horror movies, so tell us what yours is

1) Saw VII (2010)

Starring: Cary Elwes, Betsy Russell, Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Sean Patrick Flanery
In SAW 3D, the seventh chapter, a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy. A group of Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru, and fellow survivor, Bobby Dagen (Sean Patrick Flanery). Soon though, the survivors really must help themselves as Dagen’s dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror…

2) Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
Director: Tod Williams
Starring: Katie Featherston
Sequel to the 2009 sleeper hit, which proved that audiences could be scared to death without having to coat the screen in lashings of blood and gore. Katie, who barely survived the events of the first film returns, and once again finds herself at the centre of disturbing events…

3) Halloween (1978)
Starring: Donald Pleasence, Jamie Lee Curtis, P.J. Soles
Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, Halloween is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, Halloween takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers, who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked away for many years in a mental hospital Michael escapes one night and returns to his home to continue his killing spree. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first role, plays the resourceful babysitter who is chased by the killer on Halloween night…

4) C.H.U.D (1984)
Starring: John Heard, Daniel Stern, Christopher Curry
The government creates havoc by dumping radioactive waste in unused subway tunnels. Bums are turning into C.H.U.D. – Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers. It’s going to take some tough types to investigate such a horror, and who better than a courageous cop, a hard-hitting journalist, and an imbalanced bum! A model and a photographer are abducted into a subterranean chamber of horrors beneath the streets of New York City…

5) Night Of The Living Dead (1968)

Night Of The Living Dead is the black and white classic that spawned the zombie genre from its 1968 release. Still today The Night Of The Living Dead is one of the most gruesome and terrifying films ever made. Guaranteed to frighten you out of your wits, this is the story of seven people barricaded inside a farm house while an army of flesh eating zombies roams the countryside

6) 28 Weeks Later (2002) / 28 Days Later (2007)

28 Days Later: A powerful virus is unleashed on the British public following a raid on a primate research facility by animal rights activists. Transmitted in a drop of blood and devastating within seconds, the virus locks those infected into a permanent state of murderous rage…

7) An American Werewolf In London (1981)

8) Nosferatu The Vampyre (aka. Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht) (1979)

9) The Horde (La horde) (2009)

10) Trick ‘R Treat (2007)
