Chinese New Year Happenings
6 February:
- West End Lights. Oxford Circus comes alive with the glow of exotic Chinese lanterns.
- Launch of Lu Chunsheng: retrospective show at Asta Gallery until late March.
- China in London at ZSL London Zoo. Special tours of the zoo designed around the London Zodiac until April 6
7th February:
- Lion Dancing in Chinatown from noon
- China Late: Exhibition of Chinese paintings at The British Museum. 6.30pm to 9pm
10th February:
- The Grand Parade: The Strand to Trafalgar Square. From 11:00
The Parade will begin at The Strand at 11:00 and will wind its way through the streets to Trafalgar Square. Following its arrival will be an opening ceremony featuring speeches from the mayor of London, the Chinese Ambassador, the Mayor of Westminster and other contributors. Dances by dragons, lions and the famous Shaanxi and Gold Sail Dance Troupes from Beijing will entertain viewers, while martial artists and acrobats will awe afternoon visitors to the square.
- Fireworks. Leicester Square. 14:00 & 17:00
Nearby Leicester Square will host two firework displays, at 14:00 and 17:00, and Chinatown will open its restaurants and shops to patrons and its streets to winding dragon dancers and entertainers.
- One Thousand Hands Bodhisativa presented by the China Disabled People's Performing Arts. Her Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket. 4pm to 7.30pm.
- Chinese Tales and Mask Art - workshop and storytelling sessions. National Portrait Gallery. 11.30am and 2pm.
13th February:
- Beijing Dance, Drama & Opera (BDDOH) in Stratford. Stratford Circus, Theatre Square, E15. 1pm and 7.30 pm.
14th February:
- Beijing Dance, Drama & Opera (BDDOH) at The British Museum. 1.30 to 2.30 pm.
- China Now Litterature: Xiaolu Guo and Yiyun Li. Purcell Room Southbank Centre. 7.45pm.
