Queen Elizabeth is under fire from pop star Pink, who has accused the royal family of being cruel to animals.

The So What singer – who refused to perform at Prince William’s 21st birthday party because of the royal’s love of hunting – wrote a letter to the monarch asking her to request a synthetic material be used for the Royal Guards’ hats instead of bearskin, but has not yet received a response.

Pink said: “It’s a bit rude that they didn’t reply, isn’t it? I don’t get why we can’t question people just because of their position in society. I don’t care if they have a crown.

“One or two Canadian bears are killed to make each hat and that is totally unnecessary.”

After hearing of the singer’s public request, a Bridge of Guards spokesperson said: “We would be willing to wear fake fur if a suitable alternative could be found. But we haven’t been supplied with anything that stands up to the wear, durability and practicality of real fur.”
