Cast members from leading West End shows and members of the 500-plus British Olympic team will be in the square as part of a singalong “Welcome the World” event, ready to “inspire a generation” as the official 2012 games slogan puts it.

Earlier today, Olympic chiefs including Lord Coe and Jacques Rogge were over at Kew Gardens for another 100-days event, this time marked by a display of 20,000 flowers shaped into the famous five Olympic rings and at Horse Guards Parade, 260 soldiers arranged themselves into columns that read ‘100’ from the above.

“With 100 days to go to the start of the Games, millions of people are getting ready to do the best work of their lives and welcome the world this summer,” said Coe.

“We are going to deliver a fabulous Games for this country and the 200 other nations who’ll be welcomed here.”

The London Olympics starts on 27 July and runs until 12 August, followed by the Paralympic Games, which go from 29 August to 9 September.
