MORE THAN 100 miles of London roads will be turned into VIP lanes for Olympic bigwigs during the 2012 Games, the government announced today.

That works out as 2.5% or 1 in 40 of London’s roads.
The majority of roads commandeered by the Olympics will be those running from central London to the area around the main stadium in Stratford, east London. Other routes include roads to Wembley stadium, Lord’s cricket ground and Greenwich, which are also to hold events.
Dubbed the Olympic Route Network, these streets will have all roadworks suspended and traffic lights adjusted to make journey times as speedy as possible. The VIP road measures are budgeted to cost £25M.
“Experience in other host cities shows how vital this network is,” said Transport Minister Theresa Villiers.
