Where is it?
The Savoy is one of the world’s most famous hotels. Since opening in 1889 it has become a byword for exceptional quality and impeccable service. Oscar Wilde took up residence here at the height of his career. Indeed, the list of dignitaries and stars who have checked in over the years reads like a who’s who of modern history. On my first visit I shared a lift with Gene Kelly and his glamorous young assistant!
Whether visiting for business or pleasure the Savoy, now a Fairmont hotel, has one of the most convenient addresses in town. The majority of West End theatres are within easy walking distance, the shops of Bond Street and Knightsbridge are short cab journeys away as are business appointments in The City of London.
Many public and guest rooms have delightful views overlooking the Embankment riverfront of the Thames. On the other side of the property, the hotel has its own road leading onto The Strand. It is the only thoroughfare in the United Kingdom where vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road.
Art Deco is the order of the day. Sumptuously restored rooms combine today’s technology with many of the hotel’s original features. For a supplement, riverside rooms and suites are available upon request.
