Celebrate St George’s Day this 23 April with the DVD release of the spectacular family adventure George And The Dragon starring James Purefoy as England’s patron saint. Families can enjoy the action at home and cheer on a Princess, a Dragon and a Knight to remember when the DVD is released for the first time on 19 April 2010.
An outstanding cast blazes across the screen in this glorious epic tale headlined by James Purefoy (Solomon Kane, Rome) and Patrick Swayze (Ghost, Dirty Dancing) in one of his last ever film roles. Piper Perabo (The Cave, Coyote Ugly), Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), Simon Callow (Bright Young Things), Joan Plowright (101 Dalmations, Tea with Mussolini) and Bill Treacher (EastEnders), leap into the adventure.
Bursting with old-fashioned family values, this is essential patriotic family viewing on 19 April. The DVD is packed with special features, the most revealing of which is an exclusive and never before seen candid interview with Patrick Swayze on the set of one of his last major feature films talking about his private life, a film he made with his wife and declaration that he would be a hopeless romantic until the day he died. Also included is a making of documentary and deleted scenes.
In 12th century England the handsome and noble knight, George (Purefoy), has left the Crusades behind to follow his dream of a peaceful life on his own piece of land. However, in order to obtain his land from the ruling King Edgaar (Callow), he must help find the King’s daughter Princess Lunna (Perabo), who has mysteriously disappeared.
He joins the Princess’s fiancé Garth de Guerney (Swayze) in the search party and is immediately drawn into battle. Lunna is found, not kidnapped but guarding a dragon’s egg and a battle of wills erupts between George and Lunna over the fate of the egg. Meanwhile, a group of mercenaries also joins the search.
Garth becomes enraged by Lunna’s reluctance to marry him so he kidnaps her and plots to take the throne. A final battle erupts between George, Garth, the pursuing mercenaries and townsfolk loyal to the King. The battle is disturbed by the arrival of the baby dragon’s mother crashing through the castle walls. From the rubble George emerges holding a bloodstained spear and the legend of ‘St George the Dragon Slayer’ is born.
