Siblings Isla and Sandy were orphaned many years ago and the two live in co-dependent isolation on a remote Scottish island. They believe they are descended from gulls and communicate in caws and squawks. Council worker Daniel arrives on the island at the behest of his boss Roz to evict the siblings from the only place they have known as home. As Daniel spends time with Isla and Sandy, he becomes deeply sympathetic to their plight.
