In 1940, Warsaw boxing champion Tadeusz "Teddy" Pietrzykowski becomes one of the first inmates of camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. He inherits prisoner number 77. Cruel camp officers force Teddy to fight in the ring for his life and the survival of other inmates. During three years of imprisonment, Teddy emerges victorious from more than 40 bruising bouts and his defiance in the face of the Nazi terror inspires a wave of resistance against the officers at Auschwitz.
