Rather than building on this success with another easily digestible work, Hopper followed Easy Rider with the ill-fated drama The Last Movie co-starring Peter Fonda. Shot during this tumultuous period, The American Dreamer is a little seen documentary portrait of one of the true enfant terribles of Hollywood, who refused to sacrifice his creative vision for fame and fortune.
