Fifteen-year-old Congolese child soldier Jumah is rescued from the bloodshed by British aid worker Laura, who spirits the teenager back to Britain. Haunted by spectres of the past, Jumah struggles to acclimatise to life in the west under Laura’s roof, and he is involved in a couple of incidents at school. Teachers give the lad a final warning. On the way home from school, Jumah witnesses a stabbing and violence gate-crashes the youngster’s new life.
