Journalist Gareth Jones gains notoriety following his interview with Adolf Hitler. In 1933, he exploits his connections to the upper echelons of power and the office of David Lloyd George to pursue an interview with Joseph Stalin in the hope of learning more about the Soviet Union's impressive economic expansion. When his request is declined, Jones travels to Moscow and aligns himself with Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times bureau chief Walter Duranty.
