At the 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring circuit, Austrian driver Niki Lauda crashed in his Ferrari and was trapped inside the vehicle when it burst into flames. He suffered severe burns and inhaled toxic fumes, coming close to death, yet six weeks later, he defied medical advice to race again. This documentary investigates events surrounding the crash and the subsequent campaign to improve driver safety.
