An unnamed painter abandons his home in Mexico City and heads into the countryside where he intends to commit suicide. He takes up lodgings with an old woman called Ascen in a remote farmhouse, far away from the hustle and bustle of his previous life. A burgeoning friendship with Ascen compels the painter to re-evaluate his decision to take his own life.
