Chloe Aridjis is a brilliant writer, who is deeply disenchanted with modern men and the so-called pleasures they have to offer her. She is asked by the Tate to curate a retrospective of the surrealist artist Leonora Carrington, who Chloe knew from her native Mexico. During preparations for the exhibition, Chloe meets a brooding man, who sparks a dangerous obsession. Haunted by Carrington's strange artworks, reality blurs with fantasy and Chloe questions whether she is the hunter or the hunted.
