Swedish translator Lucy Fly lives and works in 1980s Tokyo, where she befriends an American visitor called Lily Bridges. The two women have starkly contrasting personalities - Lucy is emotionally restrained, Lily is a bubbly extrovert - but it is the shy Swede who catches the eye of a dark, handsome stranger called Teiji.
